i always seem to follow all the nice people/ nice parts of the fandom
the bad parts of the fandom seem like some far off land that i only hear about through folklore and the tales of swarthy fishermen

A SPECTACULAR DISASTER, PERHAPS?
omgomg i have never gotten to chill IRL with other people who really know my musicals asdfghjkl; i am weeping at the thought but fandom meetups are soo gooood
the first time stuffimgoingtohellfor and i were in a bar we were freaking out over the avengers and these dudes kept trying to talk to us and interrupting our feels and then we were like okay but who is your favorite avenger and one dude was like “mark ruffalo of course” and so we let him stay a little while we were like SIR WE WILL TELL YOU ABOUT MARK RUFFALO
we probably need to go to a very loud bar to account for the singing that will occur
do you think the barstaff will worry about all of the crying
anywho
some of us have been meaning to do an nyc fandom-y meetup for a while i think?
if you are in the nyc or the tri-state area or what have you and are interested have at me and i will start the count
we need to organize we need a plan
we need a sign

to rally the people to
i am stopping now
and saving it for when we are drinking
Even in Arkadia, there am I: NYC tumblr fandom meetup?
laustrade replied to your post: Are we going to have to organize a fannish group? Or maybe a meetup of sorts? Part of me really wants to, the part that doesn’t hate organizing. I often see that awesome people are in NYC and it’s tempting…
I WOULD…Hey guys! It’s Aubre - we do have a meetup happening for NYCC! We need to finalize details - but they’ll be out this weekend. So far -
1. Saturday - Sherlock cosplay meetup
2. Sunday - tea party and screening of the GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE
<3
Aubre
OOH HOORAY! I can’t wait! Also stuffimgoingtohellfor and I will be at Monday Night Fanfiction this Monday Sept 24, 7pm at Fontana’s Bar, if anyone wants to come out and see us being ridiculously amazing.

I WOULD COME OUT PICK ME PLEASE
WOULD BE OUR MOTTO
OK so we’re thinking about this. I have access to a pretty awesome meet-up space, which is conducive to both the drunken and the too-young-to-drink. How many fannish NYers can we reach? Are people planning to come for NYCC?
I feel like there are tons of us I’ve seen go by on sidebars. I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE KEPT A LIST. SherlockNYC is wunderbar and the reason I’m back on tumblr in the first place, but don’t seem to have anything coming up. What say we all?
Going through old folders and papers from college: the first two essays I wrote freshman year a hundred years ago surface
The first was about Sherlock Holmes in literature and Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentleman and touched on the latent homoeroticism of the character and the second was about The Incredible Hulk’s silver age origin story
You guys
There is actually no escape from the cycles of fandom. Just accept that you will never make it out alive okay?

Fanfiction.net has censored content before
This isn’t the first time Fanfiction.net has been at the center of controversy and censorship. In 2002, FF.net made the sweeping decision to remove works that were rated NC-17. I was out of fandom at the time, missed the notices, and as such lost a good chunk of my earliest work.
The first lesson from this experience is to back up your stuff, and save those favorite stories/fanworks you couldn’t live without. I know, I mean to do it, too, and will someday, I swear. A quick way to keep your writings/art/pics/manip/gifs/vids archived is to save them in Google docs or use a free hosting service like Dropbox or Sugarsync.
The second, and more important lesson: you cannot trust the internet to be permanent or fair. The internet is always the opposite of permanent and fair.
I’ve seen pillars of content like GeoCities vanish, whole archives swallowed up and lost. We’re lucky that The Wayback Machine and other online services record a lot of old pages for posterity. But you can never be sure. As someone who has worked in digital media, I can tell you a lot of places really don’t care if all of your stuff goes bust if they do.
Has anyone else noticed how much our fanfic terms sound like drugs?
Let’s see here, we got slash, crack, lemon, lime, PWP, fluff, angst, AU. Seriously, it’s like some sort of shady fanfic underground.
personally this makes me feel quite accomplished…
All of the Bruce/Tony ship names (have we ever settled on a universal?) echo this as well.
“I need to mainline some hard Stanner right now.”
“Dude, pass over a hit of that sweet Trucey.”
“You will not believe the quality of this synthetic Science Boyfriends. You will trip balls.”
(via jessicamiriamdrew)
“ There’s a time and place for everything, and I believe it’s called ‘fan fiction’.”
The Myers-Briggs Personality Test

A lot of us in fandom often seem to have similar instincts and inclinations. Why so?
I think there’s a lot to be said for personality types. Myers-Briggs took Jungian psychological profiles and expanded them into sixteen distinct personality types. You can find out which one you are by taking this nifty (free) test.
Why do I love Myers-Briggs? The first time I got my results, I literally cried with relief: it explained everything about me I’d ever thought to be contradictory. Everything I was good and bad at, everything I’d struggled with about myself and others, everything that had never made sense suddenly did.
Knowing your personality type and the way you trend lets you know that it’s OK and natural and expected to be who you are. Your introversion? A strength. Your extroversion? Harness it. Your artistic skills? You were born with them stronger than they are in others, so use ‘em or lose ‘em.
The conflicts you have with friends, family, teachers, employers? So often explained via personality distinctions because they literally cannot imagine your perspective.
There are no “good” and “bad” types, but understanding how and where you differ from those around you in everyday approaches can make the crey crey world make more sense.
I’m posting this because I’ve seen a lot of angst and sadness about self on tumblr today, and I very much wish Myers-Briggs had been introduced to me many, many years ago. But it’s never too late or too early to start understanding each other.
I’m an INFP and damned proud of it. What are you?
So I went to make a meme
and this was sitting there featured as a “popular option”

because this is the best fandom in the history of time.
Full post of all the Avengers dresses!
ETA: Whoops needed the back of that one XD
aaaaaaaaa
wow i want the cap and tony one REALLY BADLY
Keziaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I would pay you to make me some dresses -3-
For serious, I would really like that. I can pay youuu
GIVE ME HULK DRESS. WANT HULK DRESS NOW.
It comforts me that there are currently 17,000+ tumblrs and counting who feel the same. If we all strike from work and school, and just occupy the movie theaters and stuff, we can help save the world, you guys.
Or at least get to see that happen a whole lot.
Even after the Reichenbach Fall,
John Watson never stopped believing in Sherlock.
And we know you won’t either. Support the World’s Greatest Consulting Detective by purchasing an exclusive Sherlock NYC T-shirt featuring the original illustrations by the talented, Reapersun!
Take a stand. Make a statement. Buy a shirt.

To buy a t-shirt, please visit this site: We Believe in Sherlock (Reapersun)

This lovely group of Sherlockians are responsible for escorting me to The Avengers. They may be professional life ruiners, but they do it with kindness, grace and class. Check ‘em out.

So if one wanted to read some Science Bros fics…
I have a craving for Bruce/Tony this morning. I don’t even know where to look. Any suggestions/links? ;u;
And perhaps some Stark Spangled Banner too.
Lovely tumblr people, if you do not already do so, start hanging around the wonderful fan-run nonprofit Archive of Our Own (www.archiveofourown.org) when you’re looking to get your fic fix.
There you’ll find well-formatted frequently mind-bogglingly awesome works of fics and fanart. AO3’s strength is that you can always return to a set tag page a bit like tumblr (for example, here is the main one for our beloved Science Boyfriends’ pairing. Here’s The Avengers in general, here’s Stark Spangled Banner, etc.). Refresh that page, and if there’re new stories in that category, they’ll be there.
AO3 proves that nearly every pairing, ship, kink, crossover and mad idea in the world has been thought of and fic-a-fied, and it is glorious.
On AO3, you can sort stories by the number of hits they’ve received, wordcount, rating, characters, categories, kinks, whatever your preference and poison. You can download stories for reading in other formats and save your favorites. If you’d like to post fic there and need an invite, let me know as I have a couple. Requesting from the site shouldn’t take long either.
Reading and commenting don’t require any sort of sign-up, though, and once you’ve gone AO3 you’ll be glad to never look at fanfiction.net again.

A Conversation About Actor Mark Ruffalo
- Me: *typingtyping40tabsopenavengersbrucebannertonystarkscienceboyfriendsao3tabtabclick*
- Boyfriend: You're not watching House.
- Me: I'm sort of watching. *typingclickingtumblringbrucebannermarkruffalo'sfaceruinedbyfandom*
- Boyfriend: *after a long while* So what are you on now?
- Me: *mutters something vague about Actor Mark Ruffalo while frenetically reblogginghisface*
- Boyfriend: Oh, yeah, that guy. He comes into the cafe [where BF plays music] every now and then and--
- Me: *INCOHERENT SHRIEKING* WHAT? What did you say?
- Boyfriend: Yeah, I met him. He's a really nice guy.
- Me: *still SHRIEKING* RIGHT? I know. I mean, I've heard that. I hear that he's a really, really nice guy.
- Boyfriend: I didn't know who he was, he shook my hand after the set and was like, "Hey, I'm Mark" and then the bartender told me after he left that he was a movie star.
- Me: *pained noises, difficulty breathing*
- Me: Just so you know he's now top of the list of exempted people I get to have sex with.
- Boyfriend: You switch that up a lot.
- Me: Wait, did you say he touched you?
- Boyfriend: *slowly backs away*
- Me: Top of the list. And I'm going to start hanging out at the cafe. With my computer.
